Field & Stream opens 1st store
CRANBERRY TWP — Dick's Sporting Goods, the Findlay-based company, has put a new spin on its outdoor business.
Starting today, the outdoor and sporting goods retailer has the grand opening for its first Field & Stream store at 1000 Cranberry Square Drive, site of the former Dick's store, in the township.
Field & Stream joins the family of the more than 500 Dick's stores in 44 states, including the Golf Galaxy shops.
“We are proud to open our initial Field & Stream store in Cranberry Township,” said Jack Barnes, general merchandise manager. “We look forward to providing great brands, products and customer service to all outdoor enthusiasts.”
With ribbon cutting set for this morning, company officials have special events planned through Sunday. These include fishing and archery sessions and appearances by a number of noted outdoorsmen.
The 50,000 square foot building underwent a massive renovation. It is sectioned in four main areas: fishing, hunting, camping and paddling. It has a variety of top national brands including Hoyt, Remington, Sitka, Sage, Simms and Yeti.
Field & Stream also offers a hands-on experience in its in-store archery range.
More than 100 employees have been hired for the store.
In September 2012, Dick's bought the intellectual property rights to the Field & Stream trademarks in the hunting, fishing, camping and paddle categories.
Previously, Field & Stream had licensed these categories to Dick's on an exclusive basis.
Now the Field & Stream store opened less than a year after the Dick's store moved from its location at 1000 Cranberry Square Drive to its new location just off Route 228.“Cranberry Township is pleased that Dick's Sporting goods views our township as important market and decided to locate its newest store here and then follow up with the first Field & Stream store this year,” said John Trant, Jr., chief strategy officer for the township.The township made companies aware of the building's availability, according to Trant.“Fortunately, Dick's Sporting Goods saw an opportunity to fill the space with the Field & Stream so an outside tenant wasn't necessary. We worked with Dick's to get the approvals to open the new store as quickly as possible,” he explained.Shian-Li Mcguire, senior manager, marketing for Field & Stream, said, “The Field & Stream brand has been around 140 years. It holds a special place in the hearts and minds of out outdoor enthusiasts.”“Our goal is to build a shopping experience that lives up to that,” she said.Why did Dick's choose Cranberry for its first Field & Stream store?“Southwest Pennsylvania is a robust community of outdoor enthusiasts,” McGuire said.“This site is in our backyard. It's a great location given to how many hunters you have in Western Pennsylvania.Dick's plans to open a second Field & Stream store in Kentucky in November.
