Man, 39, dies in ATV crash; alcohol may have been factor
NORTH BUFFALO TWP, Armstrong County — Alcohol may have been a factor in a deadly all-terrain vehicle crash near the township building, authorities said.
Jason David Toy, 39, of East Franklin Township was killed Saturday afternoon when he lost control of his ATV on Church Road and slammed into a tree about 5:30 p.m., according to state police.
Armstrong County Deputy Coroner Brian K. Myers at 6:10 p.m. pronounced Toy dead at the scene of the crash in front of MDS Energy natural gas production facility just north of Route 28. He died of massive head and chest injuries, Myers said.
There was no autopsy conducted but investigators are awaiting toxicology results. Authorities suspect Toy had been drinking before the wreck.
Police said he and a friend were riding on separate ATVs that day. Toy was westbound on Church Road aboard a 2007 Yamaha 450 and traveled onto the north berm.
Moments later, the vehicle crashed into a large tree just west of the North Buffalo Township Building. He was not wearing a helmet.
A truck driver for MarkAnn Industries in Worthington, Toy is survived by a daughter.
