BlueSox washed out; Sliders defeated on road
The Prospect League baseball game between Butler and Lorain County was postponed Friday due to inclement weather. No make-up date has been announced.
Despite not playing, the BlueSox (33-24) increased their lead over Chillicothe for the final playoff spot from the East Division thanks to the Paints’ 4-2, 14-inning loss at West Virginia.
Butler now holds a 1 1/2 game lead with two scheduled games remaining. The team will travel to Slippery Rock Saturday before hosting the Sliders Sunday at Pullman Park.
Slippery Rock’s pitchers were bombarded by Richmond (Ind.) as the RiverRats totaled 13 hits in a 12-6 win over the visiting Sliders.
• The Sliders (26-32) did put up five runs in the third inning to take a brief 5-2 lead, but Richmond scored three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
The avalanche of offense began against Slippery Rock starter Matt Klena, who was charged with five earned runs in just 2 1/3 innings of work before shouldering the defeat.
Leftfielder Parker Osborne led Slippery Rock’s offense with a single, double and two runs scored.
