BlueSox top Chillicothe for key win
Butler erased a late two-run deficit to win the first game of a crucial two-game Prospect League series in Chillicothe by a score of 4-2 Tuesday night.
The BlueSox trailed 2-0 until the top of the seventh inning when pinch hitter Ryan Wonders’ two-run double keyed a three-run frame.
The win gives Butler (32-23) a two-game lead over the Paints (30-25) for the final playoff spot in the league’s East Division.
Reid Noah earned the victory after pitching 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, striking out five. He and Jordan Schwartz combined to set the Paints down in order in the ninth inning.
Jon Anderson started the game for Butler and allowed two earned runs — one each in the second and third innings — on four hits in five innings of work. He struck out six and walked two.
The teams will meet again tonight in Chillicothe.
Slippery Rock second baseman Cooper Mickelson tallied three singles, the last of which scored Connor McCallum in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Sliders (25-30) edged West Virginia 3-2 at Critchfield Park.
After pitching eight innings, Matt Riggs earned the win on the mound, striking out three and walking one. Ryan Furtney worked a scoreless ninth for the save.
