James Connelly shut down Mars II’s offense, surrendering just one run on three hits in Freeport’s 7-1 victory in the opening game of the Eagle County League baseball playoffs Monday in Callery.

Connelly struck out seven and did not walk a batter in his complete game.

Matt Simoni’s grand slam highlighted Freeport’s five-run seventh inning.

The teams will face off today in Game 2 at Swartz Field in Freeport.
