BlueSox blank RiverRats; Sliders drop Paints
The Butler BlueSox blanked the Richmond RiverRats 4-0 on Sunday and climbed into second place in the Prospect League’s East Division.
Four Butler pitchers combined for the three-hit shutout. Brett Sullivan earned the win after going 5 1-3 innings with two strikeouts and three walks.
A strong bullpen effort from Tyler Ferguson, Jordan Schwartz and Adam Tyson supplied 3 2-3 innings of no-hit relief to secure the victory.
Ryan Fitzgerald paced the BlueSox offense going 4-for-5 with a double, one RBI and one run scored. Butler High graduate Cody Herald was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Matt Peters also collected a pair of hits.
Butler (27-21) returns to action Tuesday, when the BlueSox host the Slippery Rock Sliders at Pullman Park at 6:35 p.m.
Slippery Rock 7, Chillicothe 3 — Storm Wilson went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases to lead the Slippery Rock Sliders to a 7-3 win over the Chillicothe Paints at Jack Critchfield Park on Sunday.Connor McCallum was 3-for-4 with a run and RBI and Keegan Ghidotti had two hits and scored a run.Jake Eikleberry earned the win on the mound after giving up three runs over five innings.The Sliders used a three-run fifth inning to claim a 5-3 lead and the two scoreless innings apiece from Tyler Wilson and Ryan Furtney locked down the win.
