PENN TWP — The Penn Township supervisors Monday night lowered the traffic impact fee on the developer of a new Dollar General store by about $10,000.

Penntex Ventures, a Greensburg real estate development company, is developing the new Dollar General store on Route 8 near Old Airport Road.

Timothy Weinman, the president of the developer, argued the nearly $70,000 traffic impact fee proposed by the township was too high, adding it threatened the progress of the building.

Weinman argued the numbers used to calculate the figure were incorrect. The supervisors ultimately agreed with Weinman’s numbers following discussion and review of an e-mail sent from Keller Engineers, the firm that did the study for the township.

The e-mail stated the numbers the firm used were an estimate of the cost based on the information available to it at the time, and the numbers presented by the developer were reasonable.

The engineering firm said in the e-mail that the differences in prices were primarily a result of a newer edition of the Institute of Transportation Engineer’s trip generation manual used by the developer.

The cost of the township impact fee was dropped to $59,700.
