CHICORA — A number of awards were given out for participation in the Chicora Memorial Day Parade on May 27.

Bruin, Oneida Valley, East Butler, Petrolia and Chicora volunteer fire departments each received honors for best fire trucks.

The Chicora Cub Scouts and Boy Scout Troop 217 won for having the most patriotic float, while Woodmen on the World Lodge 8 won for most original business float.

The Petroleum Valley Girl Scouts won Best of Show for their float, and the Christian Missionary Alliance Church was named the best religious float.

The parade was sponsored by the Dierken Ritzert Post 642 of the American Legion and the Dexter Leroy Donaldson Post 7876 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Both posts are in Chicora.

More than 2,000 people viewed the annual parade.
