Saturday — A purple basketball broke a window at the First United Methodist Church on East North Street. A church official found the basketball inside the church. The broken window is near the basketball courts. The incident happened between 5 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.Saturday — An 18-year-old woman reported her wallet stolen from a truck at her home in the 300 block of East Locust Street. The pink wallet, which contained a personal identification card and other information, was taken between Thursday and Saturday.
Friday — Someone spray painted words and drawings on the parking lot of the Steighner Funeral Home on West Slippery Rock Street in Chicora. The vandalism occurred between 7 p.m. Thursday and 6:30 a.m. Friday. Police did not say if they have any suspects.11:48 p.m. Thursday — A tractor-trailer struck a utility pole in Fairview, causing the pole to split and catch fire.The driver of the vehicle attempted to make a right turn at the intersection of Main Street and Washington Street when the vehicle struck the pole.Thursday — A mailbox in Oakland Township was destroyed when an explosive, possibly a firecracker of some kind, was placed inside and went off between 10 and 10:30 p.m. The mailbox was at a home at Bonniebrook Road and Beblo Lane, Police said their investigation continues.Tuesday — Police filed felony charges against Celeste M. Opperman, 31, of Butler, stemming from the suspected theft of $1,930 from her mother earlier this year. Opperman is accused of using Teresa Lunn's bank debit card 13 times between Feb. 8 and 17 at stores and automated teller machines, mostly in the Center Township area.Opperman is charged with theft and access device fraud.8:47 p.m. June 22 — Russel L. Weitzel, 46, of Butler was hurt when he crashed his motorcycle on Mahood Road about 300 feet west of Queens Court Lane in Clay Township. Weitzel was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with moderate injuries.
7:52 a.m. Thursday — Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle collision on Route 28/66 just north of Pine Furnace Road in Pine Township, Armstrong County. The wreck occurred when Tammy L. Redmond, 47, of Dayton made a U-turn in her car and hit the side of a sport utility vehicle driven by Julie A. Grooms, 32, of Dayton.The crash forced the SUV into oncoming traffic and into a car driven by William D. McElravy, 48, of Kittanning. Grooms and McElravy, who were both wearing seat belts, suffered minor injuries. Police said Redmond was cited for improperly entering or crossing a road.4:50 p.m. Wednesday — A 17-year-old Kittanning boy is accused of pulling a gun on an 18-year-old Kittanning man at the Walmart parking lot in East Franklin Township. No one was injured. Police said the investigation continues.
7 p.m. Saturday — Derek J. Scheller, 19, of Zelienople was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Interstate 79 in Liberty Township, Mercer County. Police said they found him with a bag of suspected marijuana.8:57 p.m. Friday — Wayne E. Phipps Jr., 28, of Pittsburgh was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on I-79 in Liberty Township, Mercer County. Police said they found him with a bag of suspected synthetic marijuana.Wednesday — Two boys broke into a Sandy Lake Township home and stole a handgun, camera and money. The crimes happened between 5 and 10 p.m. The suspects, 13 and 15 years old, are charged in juvenile court with burglary, theft and criminal mischief.June 19 — An undisclosed amount of money was taken from the Microtel Inn & Suites on Leesburg-Grove City Road in Springfield Township.
2:46 p.m. Saturday — A Butler resident, who police did not identify, was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck at Route 108 and Edinburg Road in North Beaver Township. The crash happened when Shirley Bell, 80, of New Castle ran a red light in her car and struck the side of a sport utility vehicle driven by Bradley D. Leslie, 49, of Butler.One of Leslie's passengers, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries. Police said Bell was cited for not obeying a traffic control device.Friday — Police reported that they are investigating the May 25 theft of a North Carolina man's Rolex watch, valued at more than $8,400, from the Rosepoint Campground in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The 71-year-old man had left the watch in his pants while he was in the shower room.
