CRANBERRY COMMUNITY DAYS

July 11-13 festival plans art sculpture contest

CRANBERRY TWP — The three-day festival of Community Days will take place July 11 to 13 at the Community Park off Route 19.

The event is hosted annually by the Cranberry Township Community Chest.

The activities conclude with a fireworks display Saturday evening.

Community Days promotes and raises funds for Cranberry’s volunteer and nonprofit organizations.

Planned new for this year’s event includes an expansion of the number of vendors to 400 booths, an art sculpture contest and an expanded art center.

Returning for this year are the Fire Company Golf Outing, a car cruise, carnival rides, concerts and the Martinis with Monet event.

The Community Chest has partnered with the Associated Artists of Butler County to bring an outdoor sculpture contest for artists.

The entries will be judged during Community Days and the winning art will be permanently displayed in one of the three parks.

The winning artist will be awarded a $5,000 prize.

Bruce Mazzoni, treasurer of the community chest and co-chairman of Community Days, said the expected crowd of more than 25,000 will help judge the contest.

Mazzoni asked artists to submit a minimum of two pictures that show their work. A nonrefundable $30 fee will allow any artist to submit up to three entries.

The sculpture contest is an attempt to bring exposure to artists while simultaneously enhancing the township’s parks with art.
