KC sweeps 400 relay gold at D-9 meet

The Karns City track and field team will be well represented at the PIAA championships next weekend.

The Gremlins' boys and girls 400-meter relay teams both came home from Kane with first-place finishes and state meet berths at the District 9 Class AA Championships Friday.

The Karns City boys relay team of Tyler Kepple, Logan Moroney, Nathan Weckerly and Tristian Rhoades won the event with a time of 44.77 seconds.

The Gremlins' girls 400 relay team of Taylor Brown, Brittany Coyle, Annie Hededus and Breann Wood also win the district title with a time of 50.68.

Emily Schumacher will head to the state meet in two events, winning the 400-meter run with a time of 59.27 and placing second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 19.20 seconds. That time met the PIAA qualifying mark.

Rhoades also won the 200-meter dash, finishing in 23.15.

Moniteau also had several PIAA qualifiers.

Heather Porter won the pole vault with a leap of 10 feet, 6 inches.

Jacob Taciuch won the triple jump with an effort of 41 feet, 9¾ inches.

Josh Raymundo won in singles play, but the Mars boys tennis team lost to Eastern Lebanon County, 4-1 in the PIAA Class AA quarterfinals Friday morning at the Hershey Racquet Club.No other details were available.
