Lyndora man charged with aggravated assault

PENN TWP — A Lyndora man is accused of pummeling another man in the parking lot of a Route 8 bar in the township last year.

Justin W. Cooksey, 30, faces felony and other charges in the brutal attack Dec. 14 outside McBride Station that left Paul Sloan hospitalized with serious injuries, Penn Township police said.

District Judge Sue Haggerty last week issued an arrest warrant for Cooksey.

The defendant allegedly followed Sloan out of the bar and jumped him, punching the victim in the head, according to court documents.

One of the punches forced Sloan’s head into the brick wall of the building that houses the bar, knocking him out.

He told police he later came to and recalled being covered in blood, documents said. He said a friend came to his aid and helped him to his feet.

Sloan was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for an assortment of injuries.

Among those injuries, police said, was a fractured sinus bone, concussion and a facial cut that needed stitches.

Additionally, Sloan was restricted to a liquid diet for several days because of a bad cut he suffered to the inside of his cheek he suffered in the attack.

Cooksey is charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, simple assault and harassment.
