Moniteau and Karns City will compete in the District 9 Class AA softball playoffs next week.

Karns City, the No. 4 seed, is slated to host No. 5 Cranberry on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The winner travels to play top-seeded Redbank Valley in the semifinals on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Moniteau, the No. 2 seed, will host No. 3 Curwensville in a semifinal matchup on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

WILKES-BARRE — Kevin Richardson of the Butler County Bowling Association is third in singles scratch at the PSBA state tournament.Richardson rolled a 796 series in the tournament recently. He is sixth in all-events with a 2,235.Entries remain open for the tournament through June 1.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University senior basketball standout Devin Taylor has signed a professional contract with the Etzella Ettelbruck Basketball Club in Luxembourg.The team has won the Total League championship 14 times since the organization was founded in 1934.Taylor ended his three-year Rock career with 1,141 points and 750 rebounds, ranking 12th and 11th, respectively, on SRU's career charts. The Rock was 59-29 with two PSAC runner-up finishes and two NCAA tournament appearances during his time with the program.

NASCAR’s Trickle found dead at 71CONCORD, N.C. — Dick Trickle, a former NASCAR driver whose larger-than-life personality and penchant for fun won him legions of fans despite a lack of success beyond the nation’s small tracks, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. He was 71. IRVING, Texas — Keegan Bradley shot a 10-under 60 for a course record even with consecutive bogeys in the middle of his opening round at the Byron Nelson Championship.Bradley was 7 under his last eight holes, including an eagle 3 at No. 7 before back-to-back birdies to end his round and take a three-stroke lead over 2011 Masters champion Charl Schwartzel. He had two bogeys, he missed the fairway at No. 18 and had a par putt that lipped the hole at No. 1, to start his back nine.The 60 matched the lowest round at the Nelson, but was the first at the TPC Four Seasons course. He topped his career PGA Tour best by three strokes and equaled Phil Mickelson's opening 60 at Phoenix as the best round on the tour this season.
