Russell Diehl

Russell C. Diehl, 86, of Butler passed away at 9:33 a.m. Saturday at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.

He was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Butler to the late Charles Sylvester Diehl and LaCrete Marie (McCormick) Diehl.

Mr. Diehl was a graduate of Butler High School and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a prominent Butler business owner, owning the C.T. Dumbaugh, Co., general contractors, from 1968 to 1994.

In 1962, Mr. Diehl served as Worshipful Master at the Victory Lodge 694 F. & A.M. He was a member of the Shriners International, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA, the North American Wild Sheep Federation and the Safari Club International. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and he loved music, building several guitars.

Mr. Diehl was a Protestant.

Mr. Diehl is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ann Diehl; three sons, Clifford Diehl and his wife, Kathy, Randal Diehl and his wife, Sandi, Craig Diehl and his wife, Karen, all of Butler; one daughter-in-law, Patti Diehl of Butler; five grandchildren, Jennifer Mueller and her husband, Jeffrey, of Gibsonia, Jeffrey Diehl of Avon Lake, Ohio, Lisa McMaster and her husband, Jeffrey, of Butler, Christine Creely and her husband, Chad, of Butler and Lindsay French of Butler; seven great-grandchildren, Emily, Matthew and Kathryn Mueller, Taylor Diehl, Matthew and Nathan McMaster and Alayna Creely; four sisters, Vivian Tribble and her husband, Harold, Etoile Morey, Vanda M. Brewster and her husband, Burt, and Alice Raskowsky; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Russell D. Diehl; his grandson, Jonathan French; and his sister, Eileen Steighner.

DIEHL — Friends of Russell C. Diehl, 86, who passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Brandon Lenhart of the North Main Street Church of God officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.Officers and members of the Victory Lodge 694 F.&A.M. will conduct Masonic services at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater PA, 1100 Liberty Ave., Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
