Town revitalization topic of museum talk

HARMONY — Municipal officials and residents can learn about boosting the economies of communities through asset management and historic preservation at a talk at 7:30 p.m. May 14 at the Harmony Museum, 218 Mercer St.

Bill Callahan, regional community preservation coordinator of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, will describe how towns are successfully invigorating commercial and residential areas.

In his free talk, he will discuss maintaining a sense of culture and place as well as investment-attracting planning and management strategies.

Other topics will include surveys to identify historic assets; the National Register of Historic Places; the state’s Historic District Act and Municipalities Planning Code; and state and federal regulations related to historic properties and preservation investment incentives.

Historic Harmony is sponsoring this event because several Butler County communities are pursuing revitalization and economic growth efforts.
