Science fair participants win awards, scholarships

PITTSBURGH — Students from Knoch, Freeport and St. Joseph’s high schools came away with medals and scholarships from competition this month in the Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair.

Freeport High School students won the greatest number of categories among all competitors, seven, for grades nine through 12.

The science fair is in its 74th year of competition for research projects in science, mathematics and engineering.

The competition is open to students in grades six through 12 from 23 Western Pennsylvania counties, three West Virginia counties, and Garrett County, Md., high school.
