3:43 p.m. Tuesday — No injuries were reported in a three-vehicle, chain-reaction wreck on Route 8 near Barracks Road. The crash happened when a vehicle driven by Ava Bonetti, 18, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle driven by Zachary Weleski, 22, of Butler.Weleski's vehicle, in turn, was pushed into the back of a vehicle driven by Dorothy Bures, 75, of Butler. Weleski and Bures were stopped in a line of traffic at the time of the accident. Police said Bonetti was cited for driving too fast for conditions.1:51 p.m. Tuesday — A 16-year-old boy allegedly smashed a guitar and caused a disturbance in a classroom at the Butler Intermediate High School. Police said the student, who they did not identify, is charged with disorderly conduct.
3:15 p.m. Tuesday — Lynn R. Benning, 58, of Butler was arrested after an altercation with three sheriff's deputies outside the Butler County Courthouse.The deputies went looking for Benning when he failed to return for a court hearing that afternoon. The suspect apparently had showed up earlier at the enforcement court session but at some point left.When his case was eventually called, he was gone. President Judge Thomas Doerr asked the deputies to try and find him. The officers spotted him near the courthouse and government center.But when they tried to get him to return, he became belligerent, according to court documents, and caused a disturbance. He allegedly took “a defensive stance” toward one deputy and called that officer a “liar,” documents said.A short time later, Benning allegedly lunged at the deputy. Following a scuffle, he was arrested by the trio of deputies but continued yelling obscenities and threatening to kill the officers.The deputies escorted him back into the courtroom but he continued to curse and act up, authorities said.Benning was taken out of the courtroom and placed in a holding cell. He is charged with terroristic threats, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Thursday — Ross J. Nichelson, 44, of Grove City was arrested on a bench warrant for failing to appear for a hearing at Mercer County Court.9:30 a.m. Tuesday — Two 16-year-old students face charges stemming from an altercation outside the locker room at Grove City High School. Both students, who police did not identify, were cited for disorderly conduct.
Thursday — Police filed several charges against Joshua J. Campbell, 37, of Summit Township stemming from an April 9 incident at a home in the 900 block of Bonniebrook Road in Summit Township. Campbell is suspected of threatening and assaulting 58-year-old James R. Hesidence of Summit Township.Campbell is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, reckless endangerment, trespass and disorderly conduct.
