Nurses ratify pact
Registered nurses at Butler Memorial Hospital have a new contract.
Members of the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals at the hospital voted Monday for a new contract.
It will run until April 2016. The previous contract was to expire Tuesday.
The agreement includes increased contributions by nurses to health insurance and wage increases over the three years.
The contract was ratified by the union membership with 83 percent voting in favor of it.
Bill Cruice, executive director of the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, said, “This contract and the standards set are the highest in Western Pennsylvania for wages, health care costs, and pension. Even substantially higher than what nurses in major Pittsburgh medical centers are paid.
“The Butler nurses are highly skilled and deserve to be the best paid in Western Pennsylvania.”
The union represents about 375 registered nurses at the hospital.
“We’re extremely pleased that our nurses have accepted a new agreement,” said Ken DeFurio, president and CEO of Butler Health System. “Our relationship with the nurses’ union is extremely important and has continued to develop for the good of the hospital and our patients.”
