Rock baseball falls at Seton Hill, 7-5

Slippery Rock University baseball dropped two of three games in a weekend home-and-home series against Seton Hill in a battle of nationally-ranked Division II teams.

Seton Hill earned a 7-5 win on Sunday at home, following a doubleheader split on Saturday at SRU's Critchfield Park. The Griffins (25-7) are ranked 25th in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association national poll, while The Rock (20-10) is listed at No. 30.

SRU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead Sunday, but Seton Hill answered with seven unanswered runs to seize control.

Graeme Zaparzynski led the SRU offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Matt Curtis and Will Kengor tallied two hits and an RBI apiece.

Lou Trivino picked up the win on the mound — striking out six during his fourth complete game of the season — in SRU's 6-3 victory on Saturday. Kevin Jovanovich paced the bats with three hits.

The Griffins exploded for seven runs in the second inning of Game 2 on the way to an 8-3 win. Zaparzynski and Curtis notched two hits each.

Butler grad and Seton Hill sophomore Cody Herald — who will also play for the BlueSox this summer — went 3-for-11 with two runs scored and an RBI during the series. Herald inflicted most of his damage during the Griffins' win on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Slippery Rock University split a doubleheader at Lock Haven on Sunday.The Rock (10-12) dropped a 1-0 decision in Game 1, as the Eagles spoiled a solid pitcher performance from Ashley Knight.SRU bounced back in Game 2 for a 9-8 victory in 10 innings.Butler grad Jenna Geibel hit a homer, scored twice and drove in three runs to lead The Rock. Katie Saluga, Taylor Welch and Emily Lobdell had two hits apiece.

Slippery Rock University women's tennis coach Matt Meredith recorded his 250th career victory on Sunday with a 6-3 triumph over the University of Charleston.Meredith is 250-97 over 15 seasons and has The Rock sitting at 9-6 so far this year.Janelle Krantz and Lauren Coggins led the way by teaming up for a win in No. 2 doubles, before sweeping the No. 4 and No. 5 singles matches.
