Joseph R. Lindey

Joseph Richard “Dick” Lindey, 70, of Brady Township passed away Friday at 3:30 a.m. at Orchard Manor in Grove City.

He was born in Brady Township Feb. 14, 1942, to Harry Sylvester Lindey Sr. and Myrtle Henrietta Long. He was born in the house where he lived his entire life.

He married Janet Louise Cooper Lindey on Feb. 21, 1964.

He graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1960.

He was a self-employed farmer working in partnership with his brothers for Harry S. Lindey Sons. They raised beef cattle and laying hens. He delivered eggs to restaurants, schools, hospitals and stores within a 50-mile radius for more than 43 years. They estimate that he had delivered more than 146 million eggs in his lifetime. He maintained the books and the farm equipment for the partnership.

He was a member and former deacon and Sunday school teacher at Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township. He served as church pianist for more than 35 years and served as choir director. He was one of the directors of Western Pennsylvania Bible Conference for many years. He was a member of the ACTS Choir in Slippery Rock. He served as a caretaker of Zion Baptist Cemetery for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Janet L. Lindey of Slippery Rock; one daughter, Carol J. Swanson (Douglas) of Industry; two sons, Thomas M. Lindey (Joy) of McColl, S.C., and Timothy J. Lindey (M.J.) of Slippery Rock; three brothers, Harry S. Lindey Jr. (Millicent) of Cabot, Robert W. Lindey (Shirley) of Slippery Rock and Paul W. Lindey (Ruby) of Slippery Rock; 10 grandchildren, Evan Duncan, Camaria and Madison Lehman, Austin and Aaron Cornelius, Doug Swanson Jr., Rachael Swanson, Charles Lawrence II, Jammi Kosiorek and Justine VanCise; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan Lawrence and Graci Kosiorek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant sister and one daughter, Amy Lindey.

LINDEY — Visitation for Joseph Richard “Dick” Lindey, who died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, will be Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Zion Baptist Church, 154 Currie Road, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor of the church, officiating. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.Interment will take place in Zion Baptist Church.Memorial contributions may be given to Zion Baptist Church or the donor's choice.
