Randall E. Bushaw, 67, of Butler passed away Friday at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Center surrounded by his family and friends after fighting a long battle with lung cancer.

Born on Oct. 5, 1945, at Fort Monroe Hospital, in Hampton, Va., he was the son of the late Eldon and Evelyn (Gentry) Bushaw.

Randy graduated from Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Springs, Md., in 1963. He married his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Patricia (DeMayo) Bushaw, on May 5, 1984.

He proudly served as a U.S. Navy Seal from 1963 to 1967 and was stationed in Vietnam for 27 months, attached to the U.S.S. Wedderburn (DD684). He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), first and second award.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he pursued a career as a plumber with Local Union 5 Plumber and Pipefitters of Washington, D.C., where he also taught apprenticeship school for 10 years.

After the death of his father-in-law, Edward DeMayo, he moved to Butler to start his own business, Randy's Plumbing and Repair Service, and to care for his family and mother-in-law Naomi DeMayo. He then became an employee for the Department of Veterans Affairs at the Oakland VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, where he was a pipe fitter.

Randy's passion was racing of any kind. He was an active member of the American Power Boat Association where he owned and drove a 5 liter inboard hydroplane E76 for more than 15 years. This was a hobby that he shared with his father as he grew up in Watertown, N.Y., racing Y boats. He enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with his wife, especially to the NASCAR and dirt tracks. He was member of American Legion 0117 in Butler for more than 10 years.

Randy was a devoted father and will be sorely missed by his children, Mary Jane Bushaw, Trudi (Bushaw) Stevens and her husband, Quinn, Christopher Bushaw, Janice Bushaw and Christie Martz. He was fondly known as PopPop to his five grandchildren, Eva and CJ Bushaw, Jake and Brenden Stevens and Zachary Clark. His sister, Larelle Carver and her husband, Calvin, live in Sandston, Va.

A private memorial service will be held later for his immediate family and friends.In lieu of flowers, donations in Randy's name can be made to the American Cancer Society for the research and cure of small cell lung cancer.Arrangements are by the Young Funeral Home, Butler.
