William W. Shiperly
William W. Shiperly, 88, of Valencia, Middlesex Township, formerly of the Pittsburgh area, died Thursday evening.
Born in Pittsburgh on May 27, 1924, he was the son of the late William R. and Mildred Holleran Shiperly.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radar man aboard the battleship West Virginia. He was awarded several Battle Stars, which he has for the Philippines, Leyte Gulf, Luzon, Mindoro, Iwo Jima and the last battleship-to-battleship fight in World War II in the Saratoga Straits.
After the war, Bill worked for 50 years for the Toledo Scale Co. and BSE. He was always interested in motorcycles, hunting and flying small airplanes.
He was a member of the Holy Sepulcher Church in Glade Mills.
Surviving are his loving wife, Doris “Emmy” Lewis Shiperly; his children, Rita Wicht (Steve), William R. Shiperly (Patti), Sally Dowd and James W. Shiperly; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Irene Pauley, and his brother, Robert James Shiperly.
SHIPERLY — There will be no visitation for William W. Shiperly, who died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013. A private graveside service will be in Mt.
