Some job hunters finally assume control of the power

Here’s good news for college-educated workers seeking professional or management jobs in some niches.

For the first time in a long time, you’re in the driver’s seat instead of your potential employers.

This doesn’t apply to every profession or place, but it’s great for some workers within the professional occupational category that constitutes one-third of the U.S. work force.

MRINetwork, a global recruiting organization, found in its new survey that 67 percent of job recruiters said the talent market for this kind of worker now is “candidate-driven.”

That’s a 13 percentage point difference from a year ago, and it means such job hunters have more power to make choices. The survey also showed that many of these job candidates are getting multiple offers.

Bobbi Moss, senior vice president at Govig & Associates, an MRINetwork affiliate, said employers looking for engineers, accountants and other well-educated talent need to be reminded that unemployment isn’t above 8 percent for that group. It’s half that.
