PITTSBURGH — The Pirates have signed left-hander Jonathan Sanchez, 30, to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training.

Sanchez struggled with Kansas City and Colorado last season, finishing 1-9 with an 8.07 earned run average, 53 walks and 45 strikeouts in 64.2 innings.

Before an injury-riddled 2011 campaign, Sanchez was 13-9 with a 3.07 ERA and 205 strikeouts as a member of the world champion San Francisco Giants’ starting rotation. He threw a no-hitter in 2009.
