Beef management workshop series slated in February
A series of meetings for area beef producers will be held Feb. 6, 13, and 20 at the Wesley Grange, about 1 mile north of Interstate 80 in Barkeyville. Each of the three sessions will begin at 7 p.m.
• The first session will focus on manure management plans and will be presented by Shawn Hedglin from the Mercer County Conservation District. The discussion will include information on writing a manure managing plan and how to follow it.
• “Making Sense of Stocking Rates” will be the topic of the second session conducted by Ed Rayburn, an extension educator from West Virginia. Ed will share what has been learned from a major low-cost, cow-calf production study conducted by West Virginia University and will also discuss what stalking rate makes the most sense for individual operations.
• The series will conclude with a discussion on reproduction vaccines and the challenges associated with reproduction. Vicky Baker from Pfizer Animal Health will be the evening’s speaker.
Registrations for the NW Beef Management Workshop series are requested by Feb. 4. The registration fee is $10 per person, per session and includes materials and refreshments.
