Chocolate presentation setSAXONBURG — Chocolate: The Pennsylvania Connection will be presented from 1 to 2 p.m. Feb. 5 at the Saxonburg Area Library, 240 W. Main St.The presentation connects the cultural use of chocolate from Meso-America to Europe and back to colonial America and Pennsylvania.Learn the basics of cacao cultivation, harvesting and fermentation. Examine Mayan, Aztec and European artifacts to compare and contrast chocolate in different societies and explore the place of chocolate in Pennsylvania.Participants have the opportunity to grate chocolate cakes and make and sample a historic chocolate beverage.

Self-defense class will benefit VOICeCRANBERRY TWP — A women’s self-defense course to benefit VOICe will be conducted from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Young Brothers tae kwon do school at 2057 Route 19, along Rowan Road.Participants, age 13 and older, are asked to donate $10 or new items such as grocery store gift cards, adult and children’s craft supplies, sketch pads, sweats, T-shirts, makeup, nail polish, kitchen supplies and cleaning supplies.VOICe is the Victims Outreach Intervention Center, which supports victims of violent crime in Butler County.
