BUTLER TWP — The Butler County Community College basketball teams suffered losses to Garrett Monday night at home.
Vinnie Schmidt scored 19 points in the Pioneer men's 87-63 defeat. Brent Ayers added 12 points and eight rebounds, Jake Hilliard 11 points, Bill Smith seven assists for BC3 (0-12).
Shelby Johnston had 21 points and 17 rebounds in the women's 85-47 loss. Josie Hartman and Jen Barry had 10 points each for the Pioneers (3-9) with Cam Horwat distributing five assists.
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club and Sonny Skinner of Sylvester, Ga. posted a 64 in the second day of the PGA Senior-Junior Team Championship Tuesday, leaving them in second place with a third round to be played Wednesday and a final round Thursday.McClellan had an eagle and four birdies, while Skinner had two birdies.The duo, who played on the Dye course sit at 126, two strokes back of Gene Fieger and Justin Bertsch of Naples, Fla., who shot a 62 for the second consecutive day.Denny Dolci of St. Jude Golf Club and Kevin Shields of Pittsburgh are in a three-way tie for third place after carding a 61 for a two-day total of 127.

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Flyers have named Claude Giroux the 19th captain in team history.Giroux takes over for defenseman Chris Pronger. Pronger has not played for the Flyers since Nov. 19, 2011 and still suffers from lingering effects of multiple concussions.
BRISTOL, Conn. — ESPN anchor Stuart Scott says his cancer has returned.Scott announced on Twitter late Monday night that he would undergo chemotherapy every two weeks but would continue to work.He tweeted: “Cancer wants to re-appear..picked the right guy cuz I HIT HARD all day long!!”
