SRU men stay atop PSAC with 68-59 win

Senior forward Devin Taylor scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds Saturday night to lead Slippery Rock University to a 68-59 men’s basketball win at Shippensburg.

The Rock (9-2, 6-1) won its fourth straight game and remains alone atop the PSAC West standings. Gannon, Indiana (Pa.) and Mercyhurst are all 5-2.

SRU led by as many as 15 at 55-40 with eight minutes remaining before holding off a late Red Raider rally.

Taylor’s double-double was the sixth of the season for the New Castle product. Tabari Perry contributed nine points and seven rebounds, Gerald Brooks eight points and eight boards. Darious Clark and Luiz Santos also scored eight points each for SRU.

Reggie Charles tallied 20 points, Dylan Edgar 15 points and eight rebounds for Shippensburg (2-9, 0-7).

The Rock hosts defending PSAC champion East Stroudsburg (9-2, 6-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Morrow Field House.

Shippensburg 75, SRU (women) 52 — The Red Raiders (8-4, 4-3) used a 25-5 run over a nine-minute stretch in the second half to break open a then one-point game.

Freshman guard Erica Aiello paced The Rock (2-9, 1-6) with 14 points while Simone Aladenoye scored 10 points. Erinne Cunningham had seven points and 10 rebounds.

Sarah Strybuc scored 25 points and Stephanie Knauer had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Shippensburg.

Jamestown Community College 109, Butler County Community College (men) 62 — The Pioneers remained winless Saturday despite getting 15 points from Jake Hilliard.

Kevin Rummel and Bill Smith added 12 points each while Vinnie Schmidt scored 11.

Jamestown CC 79, BC3 (women) 44 — The Pioneers slipped to 1-7 on the year. Shelby Johnston scored 24 points in a losing cause while Kyleigh Custer and Heather Cooper grabbed six rebounds each.
