GREEN BAY, Wisc. — Seneca Valley High School will be well-represented when Green Bay and Minnesota face each other Saturday night in an NFC Wildcard showdown.

Brandon Fusco, a 2006 SV product, and Don Barclay, who graduated in 2007, will start at right guard for the Vikings and right tackle for Green Bay, respectively.

It will be the teams' second meeting in the span of a week. Minnesota defeated the visiting Packers last Sunday 37-34 to clinch a playoff berth.

This game, however, will be at Green Bay's Lambeau Field. Barclay and the Packers are prepared for this do-or-die clash.

“We had a good offensive showing last week with 34 points,” said Barclay. “We just need to stay turnover-free. This is a heated rivalry and it's going to be a tough game. We have to stick to our gameplan. It's got to be a team win.”

Barclay, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in April, played on special teams until starting right tackle T.J. Lang was injured in a game against Minnesota Dec. 2. The former replaced Lang and helped the Packers to a 23-14 win. Barclay made his first NFL start the next week against Detroit and has remained there since.

“I've been told I am the starter for the duration of the season,” said Barclay. “But I still have to have the same level of preparation. Before I made it into the starting lineup, I had to prepare as if I was going to play.”

Fusco and Barclay met on the field following both of their meetings this season. It was a proud moment for them individually and as a pair of Seneca Valley graduates.

“Last week, we didn't even talk about the game,” said Barclay. “We just asked each other how things are going and talked about how crazy it was that two Seneca guys were facing each other in the NFL. It was nice to catch up with him.”

Following the first matchup in early December, the two players were joined on the field by former SV head coach Ron Butschle and offensive line coach Jim Lucot. The four posed for a picture, sure to be a keepsake for all involved.

“That was a special moment I know I'll never forget,” Fusco said. “One of those cherished memories, to be sure.”

When Barclay and Fusco got together on the Lambeau Field turf after that first meeting, they talked about all the work they went through to get there.

“A lot of work for a lot of years,” Fusco said. “We talked about playing in the NFL when we were kids.To both get here and both start for our teams is amazing, but I feel like we both earned it.”

During Barclay's sophomore and junior seasons in high school, he started alongside Fusco on the Raiders' offensive line — Barclay at left tackle and Fusco at left guard.

Barclay went on to star at West Virginia University and Fusco at Slippery Rock University.

“People could tell that we put in the work,” said Barclay. “It took a lot of dedication on our part. We were motivated.”
