1 dead; 86 hurt in car crashes over holiday
HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania State Police say car accidents killed one person and injured 86 others over the short New Year’s holiday period.
State police investigated 377 crashes on Monday and Tuesday. Of those, 55 were alcohol-related. Troopers made 184 arrests for driving under the influence and gave 1,884 speeding citations. State police also cited 233 people for not wearing seatbelts.
During the four-day period last year, 10 people were killed and 172 were injured in 552 crashes investigated by troopers. Figures cover only accidents investigated by state police. They don’t include crashes to which other law enforcement agencies responded.
