Covenant PresbyThe traditional Christmas Eve service of lessons and carols will begin at 7 p.m. with a half-hour of festival music at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St.The worship service begins at 7:30 p.m. The service is based on the Cambridge University service.The sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated, and the service will conclude with candle lighting.The fourth candle of the Advent Wreath will be lit during the worship service Sunday.The Christmas joy offering will be received Sunday. The offering is designated by the Presbyterian Church for the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions and is to provide student scholarships at Presbyterian-related racial ethnic schools and colleges.

CrossroadCrossroad Community will worship on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m. in the Northwest Elementary School gymnasium at 124 Staley Ave.

East Butler PresbyEast Butler Presbyterian Church, 9th and Randolph streets, will celebrate the fourth Sunday of Advent by lighting the Advent candles.Music by Linda Cornetti, Mary Ann Hay and Don Young will be featured.Christmas Eve worship at 6 p.m. will include Holy Communion and a congregational candlelight service.

Faith U. P.A reader and the choir will lead the lighting of the Candle of Love on the Advent Wreath on Sunday at Faith United Presbyterian Church, 1329 N. Main Ext.The primary age Sunday school class will share the Christmas story.The Christmas Eve candlelight worship at 7 p.m. is a service of carols, readings and a message from the pastor.

Faith Lutheran Faith Lutheran Church, 241 Freeport Road, will hold a Christmas Eve lessons and carols service on 7 p.m.Christmas Day worship is at 10:30 a.m.There will also be services on New Year’s Eve at 7 p.m. and New Year’s Day at 10:30 a.m.

First BaptistFirst Baptist Christian School, a ministry of First Baptist Church, 221 W. New Castle St., will be having the annual Alumni Breakfast from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Youth Center. The breakfast is for all school alumni and past teachers.The church schedule for Sunday is Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and morning worship at 10:55 a.m. with Communion followed by a potluck lunch and an afternoon service. There will be no evening service.The Christmas Eve service will be at 6 p.m.There will be no prayer meeting or youth groups on Wednesday.

First English LutheranThe First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., Sunday school children will present the Christmas pageant, “Greetings from the Heart” at the 11 a.m. service Sunday.Christmas Eve services will be held at 4:30 and 10:30 p.m.

Glade Run U.P.The Glade Run United Presbyterian Church, 1091 Pittsburgh Road, Valencia, will have two Christmas Eve services.The 6 p.m. service will be a contemporary worship and children are invited to attend. Hill U.P.Music will be provided by the piano orchestra for the Fourth Sunday of Advent service at Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St.The 4 p.m. Christmas Eve service will be a family friendly happy birthday Jesus party in the fellowship hall. The service will include a carol sing, the Christmas story, candle lighting and birthday cake.The traditional candle lighting service will begin at 8 p.m. Christmas Eve with musical preludes of vocal and instrumental pieces starting at 7:30 p.m.

Meridian U.P.The annual candlelight Christmas Eve worship service will be at 7:30 p.m. at Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave.

New Life Christian MinistriesNew Life Christian Ministries worships at Knoch Primary School, 328 Knoch Road, Saxonburg.The church will have four Christmas Eve services.“Worship and Camels,” a family and children’s celebration, will be held at 4 p.m.“Worship and Candles” will be the theme for the 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. worship celebrations.There will be no Saturday worship celebration on Dec. 29. Worship will be held at 8:45 and 10:15 a.m. Dec. 30.The children’s nurture ministries will not be held on Dec. 30.Activities will be provided at the coloring station for children as they share in worship with their families.

New ZionThe New Zion Children’s Choir will be featured during the worship service Sunday at New Zion Evangelical Congregational Church, Route 38.The teenagers and children will also present an original Christmas play.A candlelight Christmas Eve Communion service will be at 6 p.m.The final service of 2012 will be Christmas “Gifts” Sunday observed on Dec. 30.It is a service where the congregation is invited to sing, play musical instruments, read original poetry, or share stories or poems that are meaningful to them.

NIXON U.M.There will not be an 8:30 a.m. service Sunday at Nixon United Methodist Church.The choir will perform the cantata “Once Upon a Miracle” at the 11 a.m. worship service.The Christmas Eve service, “Mayor Barney of Bethlehem,” will be at 4:30 p.m. The service is for families.There will be a traditional 7 p.m. service of carols and candlelight.

NORTH BUTLER PRESBYNorth Butler Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Butler Church Road, will light Advent candles at the 11 a.m. worship service.The candlelight Christmas Eve service at 8 p.m. will include Holy Communion and the lighting of the Christ candle.

North Main St. Church of GodRegistered nurses will be available in the library after worship service Sunday at North Main Street Church of God, 1201 N. Main St. Ext.They will be there to provide blood pressure screenings for anyone who is interested.Women’s word share is canceled Monday.The candles, carols and Communion Christmas Eve service will take place at 7 p.m. with music.The church office will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday for Christmas.The Wednesday night family dinner and programs are canceled for Dec. 26.

Old Union PresbyThe choir will present its cantata, “A Night for Rejoicing,” at Old Union Presbyterian Church, 200 Union Church Road, Mars.The Christmas Eve traditional service of carols, Communion and candlelight will be at 7:30 p.m. The offering collected at this service will support 10 community service activities.The Lighthouse Christmas catalog in the lobby has ideas for what a donation can buy for people in need in our community.

Saint Andrews U.P.Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., will welcome divinity student Patrick Campbell to the pulpit Sunday.The candlelight Christmas Eve service begins at 7 p.m. with music at 6:30 p.m.Those who would like to donate the chancel flowers for one or more worship services, can sign up on the 2013 flower calendar located in the narthex.

The Sower’s ChapelThe Sower’s Chapel, 100 Iron Bridge Road, Sarver, will celebrate Christmas Eve from 5 to 6 p.m. with its annual tableaux of living pictures. In it, children will bring to life the story of the Lord’s birth.Call Zarah Blair at 724-353-2366 if taking children that wish to participate in the pageant.All children will receive small gifts during the service.

Springdale LutheranBible study will begin at 10 a.m. with church services at 11 a.m. Sunday at Springdale Lutheran Church, 1061 Mahood Road, West Sunbury.Candlelight service will be at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve with Holy Communion.

St. LUKE’S LUTHERANThe Christmas praise band will rehearse at 6:30 p.m. today at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg.Generations Choir follows at 7:30 p.m. today.Dress rehearsal begins at 5 p.m. Friday for the Christmas play and dinner.“In Bethlehem Inn” Christmas play and dinner begins at 6 p.m. Saturday.The Advent celebration will close Sunday with the final candle lighting ceremony.There will be three Christmas Eve candlelight services.The 6 p.m. children’s service includes guitars and instruments. St. Luke’s LutheranSt. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, will have the following Christmas Eve worship schedule:Candlelight worship will be at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.New Life worship will be at 5 p.m. in the Activity Center.Candlelight and Communion worship will be at 11 p.m. in the sanctuary.Christmas Day service will be at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary.New Year’s Eve service will be at 6 p.m. in the sanctuary.

ST. JOHN’S LUTHERANSt. John’s Lutheran Church will celebrate the birth of Christ with a candlelight evening service at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve, 100 Main St., Connoquenessing.The cause of the month for December is the Salvation Army, Butler chapter.Sign up to help supply desserts for the first two weeks of January for the Connoquenessing Meals on Wheels program.

St. John U.C.C.St. John’s United Church of Christ, 501 E. Main St., Evans City, will host two Christmas Eve services, at 7 and 9 p.m.The 7 p.m. family service will feature a Christmas play, music, Holy Communion and the traditional lighting of candles.The 9 p.m. service will feature music by the adult choir, a Christmas message, Holy Communion and the lighting of candles.

St. Mark’s Evangelical LutheranSt. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., will have three Christmas Eve services.The family Christmas candlelight service will be at 4:30 p.m. with music prelude at 4:10 p.m.The festival candlelight service will be at 7:30 p.m. with Christmas music prelude beginning at 7 p.m.There will be a Christmas Eve German Liturgy to celebrate the church’s 200th anniversary at 11 p.m. in the Chapel. J.S. Bach’s Christmas prelude will begin at 10:45 p.m.The youths of St. Mark’s will be having a drive-through live Nativity from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the parking lot of St. Mark’s on Birch Street.The 200th anniversary committee will be selling ornaments, note cards depicting the stained glass windows, DVDs of the 180th anniversary and pictures of the Rose window or chapel window. These can be found at the coffee “T” on Sunday mornings or at the church office on week days.

Summit PresbyThe Christmas Eve candlelight service will be at 7 p.m. at Summit Presbyterian Church, 181 Caldwell Drive.The church office will be closed on Monday and Tuesday with hours from 9 to noon the rest of the week.Both the praise team and chancel choir practices on Wednesday have been canceled.For more information, call the office at 724-287-2378.
