Michael McAndrew

Michael P. McAndrew, 65, of Butler passed away at 5:17 p.m. Sunday in the emergency room at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 16, 1947, in Erie to Mary Alice (Anderson) McAndrew and the late William McAndrew.

Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves serving during the Vietnam War. He graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy in Hershey in 1969 and served as a state trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police until his retirement in 1994.

Michael was a member of the American Legion 117, the Butler Elks Lodge 170, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, where he also served as the treasurer. He loved cooking Sunday dinner, taught wine making and helped others with their wine making endeavors. Michael loved being with family and friends and enjoyed his outside pizza oven.

Michael is survived by his wife, Arda June (Cross) McAndrew, who he married Nov. 4, 1966; one son, Steven Michael McAndrew of Butler; two daughters, Kellie Kelly and her husband, Kirk, of Butler and Lisa Buchanan and her husband, Michael, of Grove City; three grandchildren, Ali Buchanan, Michaela Buchanan and Joshua Kelly; one brother, Dennis McAndrew and his wife, Deborah, of Waterford, Pa.; two sisters, Patricia Matson and her husband, Thomas, of Erie and Jennifer Ware and her husband, Greg, of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister-in-law, Bonnie Oleson of McKean, Pa.; a close sister-in-law, Carol Cross of Erie; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, William McAndrew, he was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas McAndrew and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alton (Mildred) Cross.

MCANDREW — Friends of Michael P. McAndrew, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler.Burial will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery, Harrisville.The Fraternal Order of Police Brady Paul Lodge 54 will assemble at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday to conduct services.The St. Paul's Catholic Women will recite the rosary at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Butler Catholic School, 515 E.
