SRU men's hoops picks up pair of PSAC victories

Tabari Perry scored a career- and game-high 24 points and a season-best 12 rebounds to lift the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team to an 84-66 victory at Bloomsburg Saturday.

On Sunday, Darious Clark came off the bench to drain five 3-pointers and score 17 points in The Rock’s 78-69 come-from-behind victory at Mansfield.

Sa’Quan Davis also scored a season-high 16 points, while Devin Taylor added 12 points and eight rebounds and Aubin Reeves 10 points and five assists in the Saturday triumph.

On Sunday, five SRU (4-1, 2-0) players hit double figures in the win.

Mansfield held a 41-29 with 45 seconds left before halftime, but an 11-2 SRU run helped tie the score at 43-all with 16:30 to play.

Taylor added 14 points and pulled in 12 rebounds, while Perry added 14 points, John Bayardelle 13 and Davis 11.

Lakeland 132, BC3 51 —Despite 14 points from John Tyler and 11 from Butler graduate Jake Hilliard, the Pioneers fell in this road contest Saturday.

Butler grad Bill Smith led BC3 (0-6) with five rebounds.

Women’s Basketball

SRU dropped a pair of games over the weekend, an 84-46 decision at Bloomsburg and 78-65 at Mansfield.

Against Bloomsburg, The Rock received 10 points from Jazmyne Frost, including 8-of-8 from the free-throw line.

SRU made just 12 field goals and shot 20.3 percent from the field, including 1-of-20 from 3-point range.

On Sunday, SRU (1-4, 0-2) was paced by 14 points and 10 rebounds from Frost, while Alexas Brown had nine points and five assists.

Lakeland 66, BC3 61 — Butler graduate Shelby Johnston had 24 points and 17 rebounds, but the Pioneers came up short in this road contest.

Butler grad Jen Barry added 15 points and Josie Hartman led BC3 with five assists.

Track and Field

Seneca Valley graduate Hunter Williams captured the 400-meter dash at the Youngstown State University Icebreaker Invitational for Slippery Rock University with a time of 49.17 seconds and met the men’s NCAA provisional qualifying time in the process.

The Rock’s other winner was D.J. Chisom in the 60-meter dash (6.89), while Kevin Jewel placed fourth in the 800 run with a time of 1:56.49 to reach the provisional standard.

In all, SRU had 14 top-five performances.

The women earned 15 top-five finishers, led by Mariah Burns, who won the triple jump (11.74 meters) and fourth in the long jump (5.61 meters), both meeting the provisional qualifying standard.

Two others meeting their respective qualifying standard were Julia Cain in the pole vault (third, 3.55 meters) and Ashley West in the high jump (second (1.69 meters).
