Saint Andrews U.P.The sacrament of Holy Communion will be served at the Sunday service at Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St.K.I.C.K. will be hosting a birthday party for Jesus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 8.Saint Andrews’ youths and children will be working with Fishbone Ministries to adopt several needy families for the holidays. Items to purchase will be listed in bulletins and on tags hanging from a Christmas tree in the narthex.The church also will be collecting items to help supply the Brown House, where Fishbone Ministries is located.Those who would like to make a monetary donation can send it to the church or place it in the offering plate. The Sower’s ChapelThe Rev. Nathan Cole, assistant pastor of the Carmel New Church in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, will be the guest minister for the Sunday service at the Sower’s Chapel, 100 Iron Bridge Road, Sarver.The service will begin with lighting the Advent candles. Also, the children will receive Advent calendars from the congregation.This is the first Sunday to take names from the Angel Tree. A community service, the gifts returned to the tree help local families have a more joyous Christmas.

ST. Luke's LutheranSt. Luke’s Lutheran Church will celebrate the first Sunday of Advent this week with a candle lighting service and Holy Communion at 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg.The bell choir will perform Christmas carols for Elmcroft residents at 2 p.m. Sunday. John LutheranSt. John Lutheran Church, Main Street, Connoquenessing, will celebrate Holy Communion at its Sunday service.After service, the church will review the 2013 operating budget and accept nominations for officers for the church and the cemetery association.Sunday is the last chance for members to sign up to supply Christmas gifts for the Salvation Army Family. All gifts must be delivered to the church by Dec. 9.Sunday also is the last opportunity to order Christmas poinsettias.The cause of the month for December is the Salvation Army, local branch.Everyone is invited at 1 p.m. Dec. 8 to help decorate the church for the Christmas holiday season.

St. Mark’s Evangelical LutheranThe kickoff for the 200th birthday celebration of St. Mark’s Church, 201 W. Jefferson St., will be held on Sunday with a stuffed pork chop dinner immediately after the 10:15 a.m. worship service.Reservations are mandatory and can be made by Friday. Trinity LutheranBeginning this weekend, the Saturday evening service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Drive, Center Township, will be at 5:30 p.m.The times of the Sunday services remain the same.The senior high youth group will put together care packages for college students after the 11 a.m. service. Lunch and a table talk will follow the completion of that project.Trinity youths are making chocolate and peanut butter fudge. Orders, along with payment, are to be at the church office by Sunday.Soup and sandwich suppers, followed by a Holden Evening Prayer service, will be held at 6 p.m. each Wednesday during the Advent season.Trinity Women will hold a Bible study at 6 p.m. Dec. 6. It will be followed by assembling gifts for our shut-ins, and then a meal out together.Christmas gifts for the children from Trinity, Pittsburgh North Side, and from the Butler area are to be in the narthex by Dec. 9, and the baked goods for Meals on Wheels are to be in the kitchen by Dec. 10.
