Sing Hosanna! performs classic

BUTLER TWP — Sing Hosanna! has something to crow about with its production of “Peter Pan” opening tonight at the Succop Theatre at Butler County Community College.

A preview audience took in the show Wednesday night for the first glimpse at Jordan Rose Luntz soaring through the air as Peter Pan. She now can add flying to her vast repertoire.

I’ve talked to past Pans, and they say flying is fun and singing is fun but doing them at the same time is a challenge. Jordan soared both vertically and vocally as her notes hit the spot and so did her feet most of the time. She was simply delightful.

All three of the Darling children were indeed darling, but it was little Trey Hixon as Michael who was truly giggle worthy. His enthusiasm and projection as well as his flying style garnered him a few laughs and some easy fans.

His sister Wendy, played by Sarah McAllister, was sweet and gentle while the precocious John was played capably by Camden Rockcastle.

Waylon O’Donnell put up a doggone fetching performance as Nana, the nursery pooch.

As with all Sing Hosanna! productions, the costumes are delightful and color coordinated beautifully for a cast that includes some 50 children as well as a host of adults.

Don Hixon plays the role of Captain Hook. He and his merry band o’ Pirates were an enjoyable, comical motley bunch with Rik Medic as the head bumbler. Hixon’s scene “Oh my Mysterious Lady” with Peter Pan was hysterical and entertaining to watch.

The energetic Addison Albert gave a new twist to Tiger Lily. “The Indian Dance” scene was well choreographed but exhausting to watch. Albert’s zeal and exuberance energized the stage when she was performing.

Overall the performances were done well, the flying was amazing and who could not adore a bunch of cute little kids in Neverland.

The show is done in three acts with intermissions between them. Though it ran long, I didn’t look at my watch until the end.

Audience members are invited to dress as their favorite “Peter Pan” character. Prizes will be awarded nightly for the best costume.

Sunday’s performance is sold out.
