MANOR TWP, Armstrong County — A Valencia-based builder will handle the realignment of Route 422 in Manor and Kittanning townships, and construction will begin in 2013 and last for about two years, according to a statement released by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Frank J. Zottola Construction submitted the low bid of $9.3 million for the project, which includes realigning and flattening Route 422, as well as adding a center turn lane just east of Lasher and Rupp Church roads. Also between Wray Plan and Rupp Church Roads, the project will realign Theater and Graham roads.

Social Security office cuts hoursStarting Nov. 19, the Butler Social Security office will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., which is a reduction of 30 minutes daily.Beginning Jan. 2, the office will close at noon every Wednesday.Employees will continue to work their regular hours, but the reduced public hours will allow employees to complete interviews and process claims work without overtime costs.The office will be closed to the public Nov. 23 while employees do backlogged work that day.

BC3 hosts pair of federal job sessionsBUTLER TWP — Butler County Community College will host two federal employment workshops on Tuesday in Room 169 of the Student Success Center on its main campus.The first session is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and the second session is from 4 to 5:30 p.m.The workshops, which will be presented by a federal career counselor, are to give attendees information on how to apply for federal employment.According to BC3, thousands of federal vacancies open daily, and the average federal salary can be as much as $30 an hour or $76,872 a year, with benefits.
