Charles W. 'Chis' Bastyr Sr.
Charles W. “Chis” Bastyr Sr., 84, of West Prairie Street, Harrisville, died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler Township.
He was born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 10, 1928, to Frank A. and Agnes Stasek Bastyr.
He was a graduate of North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh. He was employed at the former Satec of Grove City, where he was a department foreman and after retirement he worked various part-time jobs.
He was a member of St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church Forestville. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member of Butler Elks Lodge, a former member of Grove City Elks, a member of the VFW of Grove City Post 519 and a member of Harrisville American Legion Post 852. He enjoyed playing cards and gambling, and he was a member of various golf leagues at Pine Grove Golf Course.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was married to Ruth N. (Wehner) Bastyr on May 17, 1951. She died on May 19, 2004.
He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl A. Hubbard and her husband, Gary, of Grove City; three sons, Charles W. Bastyr Jr. and his wife, Lydia, of Tulsa, Okla., Ronald J. Bastyr and his domestic partner Mark Page of Rancho Mirage, Calif. and Richard L. Bastyr and his wife, April, of Highland Township, Mich.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister and a brother.
BASTYR — Friends of Charles W. “Chis” Bastyr Sr., who died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the JAMISON FUNERAL HOME, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church in Forestville, with the church's Rev. Kevin Poecking as celebrant.
