VFW sends goods to troops

EMLENTON, Venango County — Paul W. Wood VFW Post 7840, 3391 Oneida Valley Road, collected more than 3,000 items in its recent drive to ship supplies to troops overseas.

Kelly Rugg, the club manager, said the 310 post members and members of the public collected items such as beef jerky, tuna pouches, noodles, batteries, body wash, baby wipes, drink mixes, razors, puzzle books, stationery and Christmas lights during the monthlong effort that ended Oct. 10.

“We even had some students from Dassa McKinney Elementary School in Moniteau make thank you letters for the deployed men and women,” said Rugg.

Collection bins were placed at the VFW post and Hunter’s Truck Sales in Eau Claire.

USIS in Boyers donated $300 to help with the cost of shipping, Rugg said.

“These items were taken to the Yellow Ribbon Girls in Ellwood City for packaging and shipment. This is when they are doing their Christmas packages, so they were very excited about the delivery,” said Rugg.

Rugg said donations are still coming in and that she would make another delivery to the Yellow Ribbons Girls later in November.
