Karns City's girls cross-country team qualified two of its members for the state championship as Emily Schumacher (eighth) and Emily Jones (ninth) both placed in the top 10 in the District 9 Class A Championship with times of 21:02.5 and 21:06.1, respectively, Saturday in Ridgway.

On the boys side, KC senior Matt Slagle also advanced by finishing seventh overall in Class A with an effort of 17:29.7.

Slippery Rock sophomore Andrew Maxwell's effort of 18:25 was good for 17th place overall in Class AA, which sends him to the PIAA Championship next Saturday in Hershey.

Grove City's girls placed third as a team and qualified three runners, including Hanna Sanford (10th, 20:56), Katie Jaskowak (14th, 21:11) and Mary Jaskowak (17th, 21:18).
