JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley football team has broken into the top 10 of the Pennsylvania high school rankings, compiled by the Patriot-News of Harrisburg, for the first time this season.
The Raiders (7-1) were voted 10th in Class AAAA behind fellow WPIAL powers North Allegheny (first), Gateway (third) and Mt. Lebanon (ninth).
Grove City (7-1) is eighth in the Class AA ranks, while Mars (7-1) is listed as a team to watch in Class AAA.
ERIE — The Slippery Rock and Grove City girls soccer teams were invited to the District 10 Class AA playoffs as at-large bids.Both teams are scheduled to play Monday.Grove City (11-5) will face Mercyhurst Prep (12-4) at Veterans Stadium in Erie at 5 p.m., while Slippery Rock (11-6-1) will square off with Harbor Creek (12-2-3) at General McLane's Linden Field at 7 p.m.
UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Connecticut and U.S. Olympic coach Geno Auriemma wants the rims lowered in women's basketball.The Hartford Courant reports Auriemma made the comments to reporters Monday following the taping of sports talk show for Connecticut Public Television.“Lower the rim,” Auriemma said. “Do you think the average fan knows that the net is lower in women's volleyball than men's volleyball? It's about seven inches shorter so the women have the chance for the same kind of success at the net.”
