Rinker sits in 5th after first round of PIAA tourney

Slippery Rock High senior Brett Rinker fired a 2-over-par 73 and sits in fifth place after the first round of the PIAA Boys Class AAA Golf Championships at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York Monday.

Rinker trails leaders Chris Cerminaro of Scranton Prep, Marc Oliveri of Conestoga Valley and Jalen Griffin of Wissahikon by two strokes. All three shot an even-par 71 on Monday.

The tournament concludes today.

Freeport freshman Audrey Clawson carded an 86 in the PIAA Girls Class AA Golf Championships and is eight strokes off the pace set by Cara Basso of Villa Maria, who tallied a 78.

Basso has a two-stroke lead in the tournament, which concludes today.

Knoch saw its season come to a close on Monday after a 3-1 loss to undefeated South Park (19-0) in a WPIAL Class AA first-round matchup.The Knights (9-9-1) earned the chance to play South Park with a 1-0 win over Beaver on Saturday thanks to a goal by Brandon Vargo in the preliminary game.Further information from Monday's loss was unavailable.

Jenny Dudek scored a pair of goals as Slippery Rock downed Sharon 3-1.Harley Boyd also scored a goal for the Rockets (11-6-1, 7-2-1).
