Freeport volleyball avenges lone loss
Zoe Pawlak had 15 kills, 10 blocks and 20 service points as the Freeport volleyball team overcame a first-game loss to down Mars 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-16 Thursday night.
Ashley Sample added 16 points and 13 kills and Megan Sweeny had 11 points, 13 kills and four blocks for the Yellowjackets (9-1), who avenged a loss to Mars earlier in the season.
The Planets (9-1) received 12 kills from Abby Matusik, 10 kills from Jaden Zimmer and 33 digs from Melanie Dinderman.
Slippery Rock 3, Wilmington 0 — Carly Shearer had 11 kills as the Rockets continued to dominate the region with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-8 win.
Laura Hilliard added 10 kills, Heather Urbaniak nine kills for Slippery Rock (9-0).
Megan Little also had a big match for the Rockets with 24 service points, two aces and five digs.
Knoch 3, Avonworth 0 — Celina Sanks had 12 points, eight aces and nine kills as the Knights rolled to a 25-10, 25-11, 25-14 sweep.
Katie Bozzo added seven kills and 14 assists and Kara Fitzpatrick pitched in 15 points and five aces for the Knights (10-5).
A-C Valley 3, North Clarion 1 — Meredith Snyder paced the Falcons to a 25-13, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18 victory with 21 assists, 14 service points, nine digs, seven kills and three blocks.
Emily Quail had 20 assists, while Kelsey Boocks tallied eight kills and six blocks. Alexis Linamen and Jess Calendar each had 12 kills and Makayli Terwilliger added nine. Abby Wetzel recorded a team-leading 14 digs for A-C Valley (10-1), which plays at Karns City on Tuesday.

Chris Georgiadas and Scott Slaney earned top-eight finishes as the Mars boys cross-country team won the MAC Invitational.The Planets' 96 points topped a field of 21 teams and edged second-place Moon by two points.The Mars girls team took fifth of 17 squads with 107 points and was led by Maggie McChesney with a time of 21:54. Moon totaled 50 points on the way to a first-place finish.Zach Hunkele (third, 19:12) and Jacob Porter (eighth, 19:36) were medalists for the Mars JV team.
