Air rescue training at BC3
A trainee from one of the state's new helicopter-based water rescue teams practices being dropped onto, and plucked from atop, the four-story fire training tower at Butler County Community College's Public Safety Training Center on Thursday. The Helicopter Air Rescue Training (HART) involved a pair of U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters. Once the team members are certified, Pennsylvania will become one of just five states — in addition to Texas, Maryland, North Carolina and California — with helicopter-based water rescue capabilities. The teams will be used primarily for rescue missions in floods and other extreme weather events, as well as some mountain rescues. See Sunday's Butler Eagle for more details.
