Freeport golf moves on; SR's Rinker wins D-10
Robbie Miller and Audrey Clawson each carded a 79 to help propel Freeport to a second-place showing at the WPIAL team golf semifinals at Indian Run Golf Course in Avella.
With the results, the Yellowjackets will move on to the upcoming WPIAL Championships.
Cole Hepler added an 84, while Richard VanDruff and Luke Mariotti each shot an 88 to give the squad 418 total strokes, just one off the pace of Burgettstown.
A third team, Shenango (425) also advanced to the championship match.
District 10 Championship — Brett Rinker carded a 74 to capture the District 10 Class AAA Individual Championship Tuesday at Grove City Country Club.
Rinker, along with Strong Vincent's John Fosco (77), will advance to the PIAA Western Regional next Thursday at Tom's Run in Blairsville.
Rinker had tied for first place in this event as a freshman, but lost in the playoff, then finished runner-up the past two seasons.
Rinker's teammate, Bob Paczkowski, placed fifth overall out of 17 golfers with a score of 81.
