Freeport sweeps
The Freeport girls volleyball team swept Knoch by scores of 25-23, 25-15, 25-20 on Thursday night.
Zoe Pawlak tallied 10 kills, nine service points and three blocks, while Ashley Sample recorded 12 service points, two aces, seven kills and three blocks. Emily Toy added 12 service points and 18 assists for the Yellowjackets (9-1, 8-1).
Celina Sanks led the Knights in kills.
Slippery Rock 3, Hickory 0 — Laura Hilliard had 10 kills and six blocks as Slippery Rock continued to roll with a 25-22, 26-24, 25-19 win over region foe Hickory.
Carly Shearer added nine kills and Megan Little 17 digs for the Rockets (7-0).
Grove City 3, Sharon 0 — Kaitlin Miller had 10 assists, six aces and 10 digs as the Eagles earned a 25-14, 25-14, 25-14 sweep.
Stephanie Risch added 18 digs for Grove City, which also won the junior varsity match 25-16, 25-23.
Mars 3, Valley 0 — Abby Matusik and Emily King each had seven kills for the Planets, who won by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-10.
Katherine Moraca added four service aces and Morgan Verplank five blocks.
Conner Gray and Tommy Dimun both carded a round-low 73 to lead Butler to a first-place finish at the 29th annual Tam O'Shanter Invitational.Gino Baroffio added a 78 and Jake Campbell a 93 to help the Golden Tornado (317 total strokes) edge second-place Shenango (318). A total of 30 teams competed at the event.

Karns City 7, Kittanning 0 — Breann Wood scored three goals to lead the undefeated Gremlins (13-0).Emily LoPresti, Chelsea McCartney, Maggie McKain and Caterina LoPresti also found the back of the net, while Morgan Deal preserved the shutout with three saves. Karns City returns to action Monday at Clarion.
