Scrapbooking event, pub crawl join cause
Butler’s Pink Lemonade team made the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s honor roll last year, so it has upped the ante to a $10,000 fundraising goal this year. The money goes to fight breast cancer.
“We’re just a couple of small town girls who like to have a good time and decided to have a purpose while doing so! Go Pink with us and Fight Like A Girl!!” reads the Facebook page of sisters-in-law Alexis and Jamie Dumbaugh, who lead the team.
Their two fall events are a pub crawl this Saturday and a Nov. 17 scrapbooking marathon.
Seventy women have signed up for the team’s pub crawl. They’ll board a 48-seat bus and two 15-seat vans — eight seats are still available — to visit four Butler bars. The public is invited to join them along the way for pink pudding shots, pink jello shots or another favorite beverage. As they did last year, pub owners at the Crossbow Lounge, the Huddle Lounge, and the Monroe Hotel will donate to the team. Playmakers will collect donations at the door.
“We wear pink for the survivors, the fighters and the taken,” read their T-shirts, which include the names of victims of the disease. They’ve sold 225 T-shirts so far.
The team’s scrapbooking event, Scrap Pink 2012, is set 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Lyndora Fire Hall.
A $35 donation includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, a Scrap Pink 2012 T-shirt and prizes, including one for the person with the best pink outfit. A grand prize will be given to the person who brings in the most donations.
