Butler Beauty School will hold cut-a-thon

The Butler Beauty School, 233 S. Main St., plans a cut-a-thon celebration Oct. 10 to raise money for breast cancer.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and no appointments are necessary.

The price of a haircut will be donated to Look Good Feel Better, a nonprofit organization that helps women cope with the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatment.

“Fifteen licensed stylists, assisted by students, will give the haircuts,” said Mandi Pyle, an instructor at the school whose mother died last year after two bouts with breast cancer.

The school also will raise money with refreshments, a Chinese auction and ribbon pins.

“We all have family members and friends that have had breast cancer,” said Diana Mitchell, also an instructor there.

“On Oct. 5, National Denim Day, our staff and students will wear pink T-shirts,” said Linda McCarren, owner of the Butler Beauty School, and beauty schools in New Castle and Kittanning, and Café Main. The New Castle school will have a cut-a-thon as well.

“The students also will donate $5 to wear their jeans,” said McCarren.

Year-round the Butler Beauty school works with the American Cancer Society to provide free wigs for women with breast cancer. The wigs are styled at the school.
