ERIE — The new bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie is set to be formally ordained at a Mass at the city’s St. Peter Cathedral.
A newspaper reports Bishop-elect Lawrence Persico met about 2,000 of his new parishioners at a vespers service Sunday evening. Persico attended with Bishop Emeritus Donald Trautman, the retired bishop whom Persico is replacing.
Pope Benedict XVI selected Persico on July 31.
At the time of his appointment, the Rev. Persico was vicar general to Greensburg Bishop Lawrence Brandt, who heads a four-county diocese east of Pittsburgh.
Ikea stores plan to only sell LED lightingPHILADELPHIA — Two years after it began phasing out incandescent bulbs, Swedish retailer Ikea is taking another step and planning to only sell energy-efficient LED lighting by 2016.In 2010, Ikea announced plans to have all incandescent bulbs out of its North American stores by 2011. The company then shifted toward only selling efficient options including compact fluorescent bulbs, LED and halogen lamps.Now, the company is going a step further and plans to only sell LED lighting due to their longer lifespan. The retailer notes LED lighting consumes 85 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and can last up to 20 times longer.
