Hawaii DTs carted off field, but OK

PROVO, Utah — Hawaii team officials said two Warriors players have been released from the hospital and on the team charter flight Friday night after X rays on their necks were normal.

The defensive tackles were taken to the hospital after being injured in apparent helmet-to-helmet collisions on consecutive series in the first quarter of a 47-0 loss to Brigham Young on Friday night.

Backup Geardon Hanohano was the first loaded on a backboard and carted off the field, but not before flashing a shaka — the Hawaiian greeting meaing “hang loose.”

The second player, starting defensive tackle Siasau Matagiese, was injured on the Warriors’ next defensive series. After a lengthy delay, he too was placed on a backboard and carted off.
