The performing arts series presents the Pittsburgh Philharmonic with “Once Upon a Dream,” featuring Tchaikovsky's “Sleeping Beauty,” Ravel's “Beauty and the Beast” and other fairy tale classics plus a visit from Ariel and Pocahontas, on Oct. 8.

This free “Remembering Two Forgotten Composers: An Evening of the Music of Arthur Farwell and York Bowen” will be in Swope Music Hall.Frederick White, SRU professor of English, who heads the University's Native-American programming, will read Native-American poetry.• The musical topic will be “Haydn to Higdon” when SRU's music department stages its annual concert to benefit the Dwight and Jeane Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund at 4 p.m. Sunday at Swope Music Hall. The 21st annual Area Artists Exhibit continues through Oct. 6 in the Pew Fine Arts Center Gallery. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
The Celebrity Series hosts LeAnn Rimes at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in Orr Auditorium; tickets are $45 to $65.
